Welcome to Welwyn Garden City Ski Race Club!

We are a ski race training club based at the dry slope on Gosling Sports Park in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire. Our ski race team competes regionally and nationally at ski race events. We train throughout the year on Friday evenings 7-9pm, and we welcome skiers of all ages, from 6 years to adults.

Our Friday race training sessions (7.00–9.00pm) generally follow the school term dates throughout the year.
Visit our Membership page to find out how to become a member, or to book a training session if you’re already a member.
Follow our social media channels using the link below!

The club introduces novices to the sport and helps develop established racers. Our skiers’ age range is from 6 through to adults. Club members compete in the summer season races, which run annually from April to September, organised by Eastern Region Snowsports Association (ERSA), as well as Club National and Tri Regions races.

We also encourage and advise those skiers interested in competing in Alpine competitions during the winter season, and who may wish to do training camps in the Alps with one of the many good ski academies.

WGC Ski Race Club has trained some skiers that have gone on to win several medals and trophies on the Alpine circuit.

Weekly training sessions for the Ski Race Club run throughout the year on Friday nights 7-9pm.

What are we all about?

We are based at Gosling Ski Centre in Welwyn Garden City and provide fun, progressive and safe race training for skiers looking to develop their skills and experience ski racing. Our dedicated team of coaches works with racers from age 6 and across all levels of race experience, helping each athlete build confidence, improve their technique and reach their full potential, whether they’re new to racing or already
competing.

Get Involed In Racing

Racing is a big part of WGC Ski Race Club and we encourage all our athletes to get involved when they feel ready. Whether it’s your first regional race at Welwyn or you’re competing at National level, racing is a great way to put your training into practice, challenge yourself and be part of the wider ski racing community.

WGC Ski Race Club is affiliated with Snowsport England and is part of the Eastern Region Snowsports Association (ERSA). Our athletes compete in both Regional and National races throughout the year.

WGC SUPPORT AT RACES

We aim to have WGC coaches at as many race events as possible to support our athletes. Coaches can

help racers with preparation, course inspection, race-day routines and general support throughout the
event.
If you’re new to racing, speak to one of our coaches at training. We’ll be happy to explain how races work, which events are suitable and how to get started.

NATIONAL RACING

Athletes looking to compete at National level can find race entries and information through Snowsport England.

NEW TO WGC SKI RACE CLUB? – HOW TO TRIAL

If you have previously trained with and were a member of WGC Ski Race Club, you do not need to complete a taster session or send us a skiing video. Returning skiers will be accepted back into the Club and can proceed directly with membership for the new season.

New racers/members are welcome to attend up to two taster sessions before becoming a full member of WGC Ski Race Club.

Before a taster session can be booked, we ask all prospective members to email wgcskiraceclub@gmail.com with:

  • A short video of the prospective member skiing
  • A brief overview of their previous skiing experience

To be considered for a trial, skiers must:

  • Be at least 6 years old
  • Be able to use a button/poma lift unaided
  • Be able to ski confidently using controlled parallel turns

No previous race experience is required.

Once we’ve reviewed the information and skiing video, we’ll be in touch to confirm whether a taster session is suitable and explain the next steps.

After a maximum of two taster sessions, skiers wishing to continue training must become a full WGC Ski Race Club member.

Once fully registered, Friday training sessions are £15 per session.
